Human rabies Ig
Indications/Uses
Post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies infection, to be administered exclusively in conjunction w/ a rabies vaccination.
Dosage/Direction for Use
20 IU/kg body wt IM, administered as deeply as possible into & around the wound. Inj the remainder into the vastus lateralis muscle w/ the patient lying down.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Observe patient for 20 min after administration. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local reaction at inj site. Rarely, hypotension, dyspnoea, cutaneous reactions, anaphylactic shock, chills, fever, headache, malaise, nausea, vomiting, arthralgia & moderate back pain, CV reactions.
Drug Interactions
Allow 3 mth interval prior to vaccination of live virus vaccines. False positive result in serological testing.
